Bon baiser du Pas-de-Calais, l'empire britannique sur nos terres (The British Empire in Northern France)
Programme of national events marking the centenary of the First World War
Exhibition
Starting with a modest expeditionary force sent to the Western Front in August 1914, the British Empire's presence on French soil grew steadily as the Great War unfolded. This exhibition explains how the forces were deployed and organized, how they fought and lived in Northern France throughout the fifty-one months of the conflict. Organized around seven themes, the exhibition comprises photos and drawings, newspaper stories, posters and postcards and personal testimonies to provide a thorough insight into the Allied presence and its many forms, from the fighting in the trenches to the contact with the local population bordering the front.
